Cookie Plant Owner Plans To Diversify

Tampa Tribune
Published: May 10, 2006

PLANT CITY - Greg Toufayan is up to his ears in cookies - so many that he's giving them away.

"When I go to my friends' houses right now, they're inundated with lots of cookies," he said.

Nonetheless, the president of Toufayan Bakeries is looking to more than double the size of the Archway cookie plant he bought four months ago.

Toufayan Bakeries Inc. has filed plans with the city for a 38,000-square-foot expansion of the 65,425-square-foot bakery at 2615 U.S. 92.

If all goes according to plan, the enlarged production area will be turning out bread products for a new customer - a large unnamed company - by the end of the year.

The new product will not be along the lines of the pita bread and bread sticks the New Jersey-based family bakery is known for, Toufayan said.
