CGI Group Inc. said Tuesday it will open an insurance processing office in Tampa, creating 200 jobs over the next two years.
The Montreal company plans to hire 50 professionals initially. They will handle paperwork for CGI's Florida insurance customers, including Universal Insurance of North America in Sarasota. CGI and Universal have signed a seven-year servicing agreement valued between $45-million and $75-million, CGI said Tuesday.
CGI, which provides information technology and business processing services, was once a major Tampa Bay employer. The Canadian company bought IMR Global, founded by entrepreneur Satish Sanan, in 2001 in a $438-million deal. However, it shut down IMR's former Clearwater headquarters three years ago.
Since then it has had smaller offices in the West Shore area of Tampa.
