Florida Earns Silver Shovel Award for Job Creation and Economic Development

The state of Florida earned a Silver Shovel Award from Area Development magazine in 2014 for its job creation and economic development efforts. In fact, half of the 10 Florida "Projects of the Year" were located in the Tampa Bay region. The list of projects include:

  1. Amazon -  Tampa - 1,078 jobs created - $204 million investment
  2. Bank of America - Jacksonville - 1,500 jobs created - $13 million investment
  3. Navy Federal Credit Union - Pensacola - 1,500 jobs created  - $200 million investment
  4. USAA Southeast Regional Office - Tampa - 1,215 jobs created - $162.8 million investment
  5. Healthplan Holdings - Tampa - 1,025 jobs created - $4.2 million investment
  6. Northrop Grumman  - Melbourne - 1,000 jobs created - $69 million investment
  7. Verizon - Lake Mary - 750 jobs created - $50 million investment
  8. Comprehensive Health Management, Inc. - Tampa - 700 jobs created - $2 million investment
  9. The Hertz Corp. - Estero - 700 jobs created - $68.7 million investment
  10. Bristol-Myers Squibb - Tampa - 579 jobs created - $21.2 million investment

According to Area Development, "Florida’s economy is carrying on where it left off in 2013 — with some of the best job growth in the nation. The number of competitive jobs projects won by Florida during fiscal year 2013 jumped almost 25 percent over fiscal year 2012, creating 41 percent more private-sector jobs and nearly 30 percent more capital investments."
